Please go to the site and object. Some important points to bring up are below:
1. Drilling uses huge amounts of water. This region has seen hosepipe bans and other water usage issues – the industrial use of water in the area of Balcombe will surely cause water shortages that may affect people right across the county.
2. There is plenty of evidence from around the world that the chemicals used in drilling can penetrate groundwater and contaminate the water supply. This is a threat to drinking water across Sussex – including Brighton’s supply.
If Cuadrilla find what they are looking for they will need to use hydraulic fracturing to extract the gas. There are many problems associated with fracking you can raise if you wish to: the large number of lorry movements down local roads that will be needed to supply the drilling site. The fact that to make fracking financially viable hundreds, if not thousands of wells, have to be drilled in one area. What happens to the huge amounts of waste water?
The main thing is to make an objection. Thanks for reading. You can read the latest news on the campaign here: Newsletter 3 July 2013
