B&H FoE were at South Downs nurseries near Hassocks last weekend, with a stall for the Big Buzz!
There is a lot of public interest in bees and how they live, what they need, and how we can help them thrive in their environment. It was great to see so many children buzzing around: some were filling questionaires; some were watching live bees brought in by a bee keeper; and others were making seed bombs. It was also an opportunity for the BHFoE group to network with others with similar interests in nature conservation and bumble bees, such as the local transition group . People took a lot of our information home and we also received interest from people concerned about hydraulic fracturing in Sussex.
FoE’s Bee Cause campaign has done great work in raising awareness about the importance of bees and their conservation. Events such as the Big Buzz have shown the fantastic success in generating interest and awareness about bees among the public.
Last year BHFoE planted a Bee World with seeds donated by Friends of the Earth. This year a new set of seeds showed up and we now have a sea of Red Campion to attract the local bees in St. Nicholas Gardens:
