We’ll be focusing on reducing the amount of plastics in our city – both the amount of plastic that gets produced and increasing how much gets recycled.
We’ll be getting involved in a variety of activities, focusing on the beach and seafront:
- Removing all single use plastics from the establishments along the Brighton and Hove seafront
- Reversing the shameful lack of recycling facilities along the seafront
- Working to improve recycling in the city generally
- Working with the council to stop the use of single-use plastics from all events across the city, such as Pride or the Marathon
- Working with people to promote plastic-free lifestyles
As part of our plastic campaigns activities we’ll be getting together to clean our beaches, to avoid the disaster that is the plastic pollution in our city and on our beaches.
On Sunday 1 July 2018, we joined GRAB, a group of local volunteers who run monthly beach cleans covering the Deans, helping to clear Saltdean beach of its plastic pollution and other detritus.
Happily, the beach in Saltdean at least is now cleaner because of the Grab Volunteers – which is proof that, with council support, communities can change the environment they live in.
